August 2014

The biggest family news this month, other than another birthday, was the wedding of nephew Craig and Eve in London on 24th August. I have commandeered a couple of photos from the happy event......... and no there was not a Spice Girls reunion and yes Craig chose pink, the colours of his netball team.

or maybe pink was Hayley's team who won their grand final

In the meantime Paul was on a work-related trip to the UK and France where he caught up with Marie and Daniel who have had an extended time in Europe. Marie posted a super-nice photo with her son.

As August 2014 comes to a close we have been in Penang for 3 years. The weather was predicted to be dominated by an El Nino pattern but it appears to have well and truly been drowned by the wet South West Monsoon that leaves this small island located off the western side of Peninsular Malaysia rather exposed. Coco waits and watches the rain falling from the roof and knows it has to stop before a walk is possible.

I don’t particularly like this time of the year as the photographic opportunities take a dive and nesting is rare and the migrants are elsewhere.

Helen keeps busy teaching her classes but a lot of the students have also been away. We have been steady with the B and B and currently Angela is staying with us for approximately 3 months. Angela is a Malaysian-born lawyer who has been located in Singapore for 30 years. She is refurbishing a house and needs to keep a close eye on the contractor until it is liveable. August has seen a number of art and cultural exhibitions that has kept Helen entertained.

Nikki is busy back at medical school while Dani has flown to meet Jack in Chile. They were enjoying a trip through Argentina until they got mugged…..which seems to be quite common in that country.

I was invited by the Nature Photographic Society in Singapore to give a talk and the next day to participate as an instructor in in their annual teaching course. Both seem to have gone down well.

Though time was limited I had a dose of Singapore's heartland Hawker centres and saw the latest project in upwards living.

Back home we continue to be amused by Coco and her local fan base. I am sure that you get back what energy and attention you give to our furry friends. The local development that we are a part of continues towards completion….the latest series of high rise apartments  have now topped off.

I completed another year towards the biblical 3 score and ten and Helen and I had a quiet celebration. We had lunch at a favourite restaurant and a snoop through a relatively new shopping centre and the increasingly colourful merchandiseI was tickled by the response on Facebook from former students.

On the photographic front I have had a limited number of photo shoots and have spent time updating my website and using some new software to bring a better appearance to previously taken images and discovering a few more in the archives.

I have been asked for several images for various publications, which is always interesting. The small Antelope is a Steenbok.
